Mannix, the U.S. Ski Team member who notched several eye-opening performances over the winter, extended her realm to mountain running on Saturday. She soundly beat three-time defending Mount Marathon champion Cedar Bourgeois in the Government Peak Climb, the kick-off race of the annual Alaska Mountain Running Grand Prix.

Skier is nationally ranked No. 3 behind APU students Randall and Mannix

  The Anchorage Daily News announced today that Laura Valaas, the third ranked nordic skier in the U.S., has chosen to join the APU Ski Team. At APU, the 23-year-old will join APU students and U.S. Ski Team members Kikkan Randall  and Tazlina Mannix -- both of whom are ranked ahead of her in the USSA rankings. Valaas is ranked No. 3. Together, they combine to give APU nearly as much firepower as the national team.
