APUNSC Noon Master’s Program Description

(age 21+)

The goal of the APUNSC Masters program is to promote skiing in the Anchorage community. The program is designed to build general fitness, improve ski skills and technique, plus provide a group to train with promoting friendship and a love of Nordic skiing. We have many long-time members and always welcome new-comers! Some of our members come every day and other come whenever their schedule allows.

Our groups meets 5 times a week most of the year. Our members receive the most up-to-date help with technique, group training plan, information on local events, information on ski care, and access to the APUNSC fitness center. The program also features many annual events including wax clinics, APU sponsored races, Spring BBQ-relay, program parties, and advice on ski selection.

We offer the following programs for Masters:

Year round (May 1 - April 10): The year round program is recommended for those who want consistency in their training throughout the year. Year round athletes benefit from structured training focused on improving health and ski fitness.

Summer/Fall – “Dry land” (May 1 – September 30) The summer session includes lots of cross training meant to gain fitness, strength, and technical ski-specific skill. In the summer and fall our group runs, bikes, ski walks, roller skis, and spends time in the weight room. The APU dry land program is a great way to learn the trail systems in town and have training partners on a daily basis.

Winter (October 1 – April 10) The winter program focuses entirely on fitness and technique surrounding cross country skiing. Weeks in the winter are divided between time in the weight room, distance workouts, technique workouts, specific strength workouts, interval workouts, and tours.

Flex option We offer a “flex option” which allows APU members to train with either the noon or evening group. This option is great for people that would occasionally miss practice due to other commitments. If you’re busy at noon, come in the evening – or if you have plans at night, come at noon! See the Master’s program registration for more details.
