Masters Evening Team

(ages 21-101)

The goals of the APUNSC Masters program include general fitness/health, injury prevention, cross-country ski technique, friendship, and a continued (or new) love of Nordic skiing. We have many long-time members of our program but we always welcome new-comers!

Our groups meet 3-5 times a week during most of the year. Our members receive the most up-to-date help with technique, a training plan which optimizes personal health and fitness, information regarding local events, ski care, ski selection, and waxing through practices and our list serves, and access to the APUNSC facilities. The program also features many annual events including waxing clinics, APU sponsored races, BBQs, program parties, and private ski selection/fitting nights.

We offer three programs for Masters:

Year round: The year round program is recommended for those who want consistency in their training throughout the year. Year round athletes benefit from continued fitness and have the highest likelihood of experiencing improvement year to year. They reap the benefits from both the summer only and winter only programs.

Summer only: The summer session includes lots of cross training meant to gain fitness, strength, and technical ski-specific skill. In the summertime our group run, bike, ski walk, roller ski, and spend time in the weight room. The APU summer program is a great way to learn the trail systems in town and have training partners on a daily basis.

Winter only: The winter only program focuses entirely on fitness and technique surrounding cross country skiing. Weeks in the winter are divided between time in the weight room, distance workouts, technique workouts, specific strength workouts, interval workouts, and tours.

Where and when do we meet?

Workouts begin everyday at 6:30.

Workout locations fluctuate with the seasons. In the winter the group primarily skis at APU, Kincaid park, and Hillside. In the spring, summer, and fall the group trains at a wider variety of locations.

Primary training locations:

APU: Atwood parking lot
Hillside: Abbott road parking lot
Kincaid: Lower parking lot behind timing hill

Other training locations:

Jodphur Parking lot: Take Dimond West towards Kincaid. The road will turn 90 degrees to the right. The parking lot will be on your left.
Potter: At the intersection of Potter Valley road and the New Seward Highway by the mailboxes
Turnagain arm trail: Continue 1/8 mile past Potter intersection, parking lot is on the left side of the highway
Sand Lake: Corner of Sand Lake and Kincaid Road near Sand Pit Development.
Arctic Valley: Pass the golf course and continue until you reach a large parking lot on the right side of the gravel road.

Thanks for your interest in our group and we look forward to having you!
